The delicious Puliyogare – Spicy Tamarind Rice is very popular in the southern states of Tamil Nadu, Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh.
Puli in Puliyogare translates to “sour taste” referring to the characterizing use of tamarind as one of the main ingredients.
This is my all time favorite quick lunch perfect for kids and adults alike. A great dish to tuck into lunch boxes for your kids at school.

My husband who is a huge puliyogare fan admits that this version is pretty close to the yummy puliyogare he has tasted before. Back in college he had friends whose mums would pack big tubs of ‘pulikachal’ which they would simply mix into plain rice and gobble up. He loved it.

And you don’t need to be afraid to try when there is Eastern Puliyogare Masala! I have tried the MTR Puliyogare Masala too. But personally I preferred the Eastern Masala better.
